Evanescence finishes final condition at Keeneland

   Evanescence, a four year old filly by Munnings, moved her career earnings above $380,000 with a sharp victory over a short field of talented rivals on Wednesday at Keeneland.  Pilot Jose Ortiz kept her reasonably close to the pace which sauntered through an opening quarter of 23.1 and a half in 46.2.  She was able to accelerate at the end and drew off to win by almost two lengths, recording a time of 1:16.2 for 6 1/2 furlongs.  Her final quarter was estimated at 23.3. 

   This sets her up for a big test next out at Churchill Downs on June 20 in the Grade 2 Chicago Stakes at 7 furlongs.  With any luck, there will be plenty of pace and the longer stretch will play in to her late running game quite nicely.  From nine starts, she has recorded four wins, a second and four thirds.  She is multiple stakes placed and graded stakes placed.
