Humble Toad wins impressively in debut

23 Mar 2026

Humble Toad, a three year old filly by Hard Spun out of Froskurinn, made her long awaited debut at Fair Grounds on March 13.  She did not disappoint.  Sent off at 7/2 odds against a 4/5 favorite (Lakota Lady), she sat just outside that one through quick fractions of 21.2 and 44.2, took the lead midway on the turn, was joined in a spirited stretch battle with Aegis at the 1/8 pole and prevailed over that one in a zippy final time of 1:09.3.

The two leaders we well clear of the third place finisher, Be The Light.

Humble Toad is the first foal of Froskurinn, who was unraced due to injury.  The mare has two subsequent fillies by Mendelssohn and Authentic and is in foal to Practical Joke.  She was bred late, so will be bred again in 2027.

The first condition allowance race for her is early in the Keeneland meet, so she will likely defer until Churchill to make her second start sometime in May.
