Evanescence return to racing with a win over stablemate

06 Feb 2026

Evanescence, who last raced in June, returned to the races yesterday with a winning performance.  Both she and her stablemate, Quantum Burst, were still eligible for a second condition allowance and went six furlongs against each other as part of a short six horse field.

Evanescence trailed early, made steady progress up the back side, circled the field in the 5-path and drew away to prove much the best against her foes to score a 3 1/2 length victory.

She covered the 3/4 mile in 1:09:4.

Quantum Burst, off since April, stalked a few lengths behind the leaders but found herself surrounded by tiring horses around the turn which caused her to have to wait for room in the stretch. Finally, with about 1/16 mile to go, she squeezed through on the rail and outkicked all other foes to gather the place behind Evanescence.

Evanescence is already graded stakes placed and will probably need to step up to stakes company next time out.  She is clearly best considered a late running sprinter with obvious talent and competitiveness.

Quantum Burst remains eligible for that second condition.  She is probably best at 7 furlongs or a one-turn mile.

Both fillies will hopefully have the chance to strut their stuff in front of the home crowd at Keeneland this Spring.
