Curly Ruth notches first condition at Tampa Bay

07 Jan 2021

Curly Ruth (Curlin- Rutherienne) won a first condition allowance race at Tampa Bay in impressive fashion to move her record to two wins in seven lifetime starts.  Ridden by Hector Diaz, she was given a patient early ride as she laid about four lengths off an honest pace of 48.4 for a half mile.  She picked it up on the turn and appeared to flatten out with an eighth of a mile to go.  However, when Stormy D moved alongside her and looked like she would go on to win, Curly Ruth responded to the competition and beat that one to the wire to prevail by 3/4 length. The pair were another two lengths clear to the third place finisher.

Time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:43.2. The final half furlong was run in 6.0 seconds, so the winner was faster than that and really accelerated when it counted.  We are excited heading into the summer racing opportunities for her to prove her mettle in some black type races!

The 4- year old filly was purchased for Green Lantern Stables by Patrick Masson Bloodstock at the 2018 Keeneland yearling sale for $275,000.  Her dam is Rutherienne, who is a multiple graded stakes winner with over $1.2 million in lifetime earnings.  Needless to say, if she gathers some black type, she will have a home in our stable for many years.
