Malthael off the Schneid

22 Nov 2019

Malthael, a three year old son of Noble Mission out of Ender's Sister, wired a six horse field at Aqueduct on November 22 to finally notch his first win.  The gelding had finished second or third six times in nine starts for trainer Christophe Clement, and always seemed to catch a "now" horse every time he ran.  This race was originally slated for 11 furlongs on the grass, but shortened to nine furlongs on the dirt due to inclement weather.

Ridden by Joel Rosario, Malthael never faced a serious challenge and won handily as the even money favorite.  His career record now stands at 10-1-3-3 and he has earned more than $137,000.  Competition is fierce in New York, but the purses more than compensate.  As a half to A.P. Indian, Malthael may have class to compete at the highest level some time in the future.  His brother's best year was as a 6-year-old.

Having campaigned and trained since mid 2018, Malthael will get a few weeks of down time in Florida to relax before heading back to work for a spring campaign.
