Frostmourne takes the Awad by daylight

15 Nov 2016

Frostmourne, a 2 year old homebred colt by Speightstown, won the Awad at Belmont Park, a $100,000 listed stakes race, by 3 1/2 lengths on October 29.  As the last foal of the late Leaning Tower, Frostmourne has a significant family reputation to uphold.  He is a half brother to both Karelian (Grade 1 winner of the Makers Mark Mile) and Colgins Chip (GSP).

Frostmourne, who is named after a powerful sword in the World of Warcraft video game (can you tell we have sons?), raced very greenly and was forced to check several times throughtout the early and middle part of the race.  Despite the terrible trip and having no clue why he was there, the colt exploded when clear to prove himself much the best.

This colt has very high potential, but he will need maturity and focus to achieve it.  He is traveling to the relaxed atmosphere of Payson Park in Florida this winter and will have a little down time before resuming his racing career this spring. Fingers are crossed that he grows up soon and 2017 could be very fun for all of us.
