A.P. Indian runs fourth in the Breeders Cup Sprint

15 Nov 2016

A.P. Indian, after an ambitious and greuling 2016 summer campaign, ran fourth in the Breeders Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on November 5.  As second choice, the gelding was at a disadvantage on the hard and very fast surface and ultimately beaten by some very fast and talented horses.  The first half mile was run in 44.0, which proved A.P.'s undoing as he had to work hard not to lose touch with the leaders on the speed-favoring surface.  He lost his late punch as a result.

The good news is the 6-year-old came out of the race in great shape physically and with a much deserved rest in his near future, should be ready to compete at a high level again in 2017.  He continues to be a barn favorite for the Delacours so lets hope he doesn't get too fat from all the apples he will get at Tampa this winter.  Not to worry; he likes grass too.
