Foals begin to arrive!

29 Feb 2016

The 2016 foaling and breeding season is underway at Golden Age.  First to arrive was a Tale of the Cat filly out of Stella Maker on January 24.  She is good size for a first foal.  Next came Athenian's Oasis Dream colt on Januray 26.  He is everything we were hoping for and we are now even more excited about Athenian's prospects as a broodmare.  On February 5, Sea Level Drive had a Paynter filly who is also nice.  These three foals, all of whom are bay, are currently together with their mothers in our front field getting plenty of exercise and room to frolick in the unseasonably warm late winter weather here in Kentucky.

Irridescence, following a few non-productive years, gave birth to a very solid Pioneer of the Nile colt at Woodspring Farm on February 11.  Mom and foal are doing great and Dr. Priest and his crew are doing a great job dealing with the mother's idiosynchratic tendencies.  Irridescence has never looked better; we hope it rubs off on the foal.

Finally, February 19 was a rare doubleheader.  Enders Sister delivered a large and solid colt by Noble Mission in the late afternoon, with Patrick Masson assisting Darrell before Jimmy arrived for the evening shift.  This may be her best looking foal to date.  Several hours later,  Clever Beauty dropped a Warriors Reward colt with Jimmy and Darrel doing the honors as is usual.  These two bays are spending time in the small paddocks and will move in with their older barnmates shortly.

On March 6, in the afternoon, the newest member of our band, Maggie D'Oro, gave birth to a bay filly by Scat Daddy.

This makes it 4-3 girls over boys.
