Tapiteao breaks maiden at Oaklawn

19 Feb 2014

Tapiteao (Tapit-Black Tea), a $90,000 September yearling purchase, won impressively in her first start of 2014 at Oaklawn Park.  Trained by Jack Bohanan for Rusty Arnold, she had finished a good second in her final start of 2013 at Churchill when moved to the dirt after two lackluster races on the sod.  Ridden by Channing Hill, the filly was last in a field of eight after a slow half mile of 50 4/5, but was able to rally with a big mid-race move to pull within a few lengths of the leaders by the top of the stretch, catching them inside the final furlong and drawing away to win by almost two lengths.  She came out of the race well and is expected to try allowance company in her next start.
